• Built into the new Welch Allyn handle is a fail-safe mechanism to prevent battery drain. After 3 minutes of use with the Retinoscope and Transilluminator or 10 minutes of use with the PanOptic and Direct Ophthalmoscope, the handle will automatically shut off. This feature can easily be reset by simply turning the rheostat to the off position and then back on to the desired power level. This shut-off prevents any battery drain from accidentally being left on.
